The present study aims to investigate the mechanism of decision making process from the hot cognition perspective. The effect of anger, as an emotion (with cognitive profile),as well as cognitive styles (need for cognition, structure, and certainty), as a motivational parameter, on analytical decision making process were examined based on Klaczynski’s Dual-Process Model (2004). In this model, metacognitive dispositions are the mediators sitting between predictor variables and decision making. The Actively Open-Minded Thinking Scale was considered as an index of metacognitive dispositions. The research subjects included 233 female and male bachelor students of Shiraz University. The Need for Cognition (Cacioppo, et. al., 1996), the Need for Structure and the Need for Certainty (Thompson et. al., 1992), Anger (Lerner & Keltner, 2000), Cognitive Appraisal (Smith & Ellsworth, 1985), Actively Open-Minded Thinking (Stanovich & West, 2007) and Decision Making (Klaczynski, 2001) Scales were used. Validity and reliability of the scales were confirmed. The results indicated that anger predicted analytical decision making negatively and in direct and indirect (through open-minded thinking) ways. The need for cognition predicted decision-making positively. The need for structure predicted decision making negatively only through Open-Minded Thinking Variable. The need for certainty did not predict decision making. Cognitive appraisal of certainty and self-responsibility/control explained cognitive profile for anger.

The purpose of this research was to investigate the contribution of socio - economic status, cultural capital of family and educational social structure variables in predicting academic engagement and academic achievement between distance education students and traditional education and also studying existing differences between students of these two groups. The research method was correlational. Participants were 700 undergraduate students in the academic year 92-93 which was selected using Morgan schedule and cluster random sampling. Data gathering tools were student's performance score and questionnaire .Pearson correlation, independent t-test and multiple regressions were applied for analyzing of data. The results indicate that although SEM status and cultural capital were effective in predicting academic engagement and academic achievement of each group; however, a great deal of distance educational student assessment was explained by these variables. Regarding traditional students, in addition to essential role of cultural capital of family, authors of this article observed, outstanding role of some other social structure dimensions of education such as teachers and students academic support to each other on traditional students educational outcome. Other results of this research showed considerable difference between distance and traditional students in many variables that were investigated in this research and preference of traditional students on distance students except in cognitive engagements.

The Experienced Curriculum” is one of the curriculums performed in the educational systems on which several different studies have been done. “The Experienced Curriculum” is of different levels whose first one is the hidden curriculum. This curriculum can be affected by different factors which have been categorized into four categories namely, educational, social, and geographical in this study. Despite the plethora of studies done on the experienced curriculum, a few field studies have been done on the effective factors in the curriculum. The present study aims at exploring the effective factors in the hidden curriculum of “Islamic Thoughts” course for B.A. students. The required data have been collected by questionnaire. 210 students have been randomly selected as the statistical sample from among 650 students studying at one of Tehran’s universities in 2010-2011 semesters. The Pearson statistical test has been used to analyze the collected data. The findings of the study demonstrated that all educational, social, and geographical factors and their related subsets have significant relationships with hidden curriculum of “Islamic Thoughts” course, but the results of the total Regression only proved the following significant relationship: educational factors and teacher, content and evaluation variables; social variables and the family media, friends and classmate variables; social variables and study, satisfaction of religious education; and the geographical variables with the residential place variables. The findings also proved that “satisfaction of religious education”, “teachers of the religious course”, “friends and classmates”, “media and religious studies” have the most significant relationships with the hidden curriculum of “Islamic Thoughts” respectively.

One aspect of second language teaching via computerized language learning programs that has received great attention over the past few years is helping vocabulary learning through link technology. The present study was conducted to examine the effect of two types of link (repetitive textual and in-text reference) on vocabulary learning and retention and reading comprehension. The design of this quasi-experimental study was pretest-posttest with two independent groups in which 35 undergraduate students in two experimental groups participated in the study and were asked to read a computerized text. Two different versions of the reading text were developed for the experimental groups involved in the study. In one version of the computerized texts, the repetitive textual links, and in the other, in-text reference links were used. Having read the text, the participants took an immediate vocabulary posttest as well as a reading comprehension test. Three weeks following the exposure, the participants in the two groups were asked to complete a delayed vocabulary posttest in order to measure their retention level of the target words. Data obtained from pre-test and post-tests were analyzed using t test at p<0.05 significance level for two independent groups. The mean score of in-text reference links group in learning vocabulary posttest was 16.11 (SD=2.45), in vocabulary retention posttest 13.66 (SD=1.86) and in reading comprehension was 10.11 (SD=1.41).The mean score of repetitive textual links group in learning vocabulary posttest was 12.06 (SD=2.14), in vocabulary retention posttest 8.29 (SD=1.53) and in reading comprehension was 9.29 (SD=2.02).The result of the study indicated that the participants in the group with in-text reference links outperformed those in the group with repetitive textual links in terms of vocabulary learning and retention; however, no statistical significance in the participants’ reading comprehension level was detected. Based on levels-of-processing theory, processing target words at different levels would lead to a differential rate of learning and retention of those words. Put another way, those target words that are deeply processed would be learned better and retained longer in contrast to those which are only treated at shallow levels of processing

Psychological factors are an important precursor to the onset of sports injuries and also play an important role in injury rehabilitation and ultimately successful return to play. The aim of this research was to predict the psychological vulnerability of sports performance based on the cognitive regulation of emotion and social support in elite student athletes. The descriptive research method is correlation type and multiple linear regression model. The statistical population of this research includes all the elite athletes of Tehran in the year 2021-2022 with the age range of 18 to 25 years and different skill levels (group and individual athletes), of which there are 300 people based on James' sample size determination method were selected, the sampling method was accessible. In order to collect data from the Psychological Questionnaire of Sports Performance ) (Hernandez-Mendo, 2006), modified Lohr Psychological Questionnaire, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire () (Garnefsky et al., 2002) and Social Support Questionnaire Cutrona and Russell, 1987) was used. The results of the research showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between the psychological abilities of performance and the compromised strategies of cognitive emotion regulation and social support at the probability level of one percent, and there is a negative relationship between the psychological abilities of performance and the compromised strategies of cognitive emotion regulation(t=-1.396, β=-2.963 , p=0.164). It is not statistically significant. Therefore, the results showed that the psychological performance increases with the increase of social support and emotional compromise strategies, which naturally reduces the psychological damage of the athletes.

The present study was carried out in order to investigate the Impact of learning styles and applying semantic-mapping on the high school students’ critical thinking ability and English vocabulary learning improvement. To this end, a sample of 123 female high school students were randomly selected from 4 educational districts of Karaj narrowed down to Farzanegan High school in 1st district using accidental cluster sampling method. The students did the Critical Thinking Questionnaire (Honey, 2004) and Learning Style Questionnaire (O’Brien, 1989) in the pre and post-test steps. They also were administered a general proficiency test of Nelson (A050) for the purpose of homogeneity, and a vocabulary test to ensure their illiteracy of them at the onset of the treatment. In addition, the same vocabulary test was taken as a post-test after 12 sessions of instruction and learning through semantic-mapping, as a vocabulary learning strategy. The data was collected. Based on the statistical analysis, the results showed the learning styles had no statistically significant impact on the students’ critical thinking ability and their vocabulary learning improvement (two-way, and ANOVA analyses) the first and second hypotheses of the study were confirmed. The third and fourth hypotheses were rejected as the results revealed that semantic-mapping had a statistically significant impact on the critical thinking ability and vocabulary learning improvement of the participants (independent T-tests). Then, some pedagogical and practical implications and suggestions for further research as well as limitations of the study are provided. Keywords: Cognitive Learning Styles, semantic-maps, and critical thinking

So, English as a subject has been embedded in curriculum of many formal educational systems. Teaching English in the formal educational system of Iran is started from guidance school and continued until pre-university. Word learning has an important role in foreign language learning process, because most of differences among languages refer to their word domain and many of them as Persian and English have very similarities in grammar domain. Learners to learn words for a long time may use many strategies that rehearsal (or rote memorization) seems to be the most prevalent of them. But, research has shown that this strategy is not so effective. Hence, researchers have examined more effective strategies such as mnemonic devices, for example keyword and mental imagery that effectiveness of them has been proved many times in different countries. The aim of this research is to examine the effectiveness of these two strategies in learning and retention of meaning of the English words in comparison to rote memorization among Guidance school pupils.
