Mindsets as a cognitive-motivational system determine how people think about their personal characteristics, effort, success and failure in various situations. The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between language mindsets and failure response among EFL learners, considering the mediating role of goal orientation and self-regulated learning. The Method of this research was descriptive based on path analysis. The statistical population consisted of all learners of English language teaching institutes in Baharestan in 1398. Participants included 205 EFL learners (122 females and 83 males) who were selected by multistage cluster random sampling method. To collect data, four questionnaires were used: Language Mindset Inventory (Loe & Noels, 2016), Motivational Strategy of Learning Questionnaire (Pintrich & DeGroot, 1990), Achievement Goal Orientation Instrument (Elliott & Church, 1997), and Response to failure situation scale (Loe & Noels, 2016). The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The results showed that growth language mindset had a positive indirect effect on mastery response mediated by learning goals and self-regulated learning strategies, and negative indirect effect on helpless-anxious response mediated by self-regulated learning strategies. Also, fixed language mindset had a positive indirect effect on helpless-anxious response mediated by performance-avoidance goal and test anxiety. However, the indirect effect of language mindsets on failure response via performance-approach goal was not confirmed. In Conclusion, Language educators with greater awareness of the concept of mindsets can promote learner’s beliefs about the nature and process of knowledge acquisition, and emphasize the importance of goals achievement and self-regulation in learning.

This study investigated the antecedents and outcomes of goal orientation in a causal model in which student-teacher interaction and self-efficacy were considered as endogenous variables, goal orientation as the mediating variable and academic buoyancy as the exogenous variable. Participants were 516 high school students (291 boys and 225 girls) in Kazeroun who completed Academic Buoyancy Questionnaire (Hosseinchari & Dehghani, 1391), Goal Orientation Scale (Elliot & Mcgregor, 2001), Teacher-Students Interaction Questionnaire (Wubbles, Creton, Levy & Hooymayer, 1993), and Self-efficacy Scale (Moris, 2001). Descriptive statistical methods and path analysis were used to test the model. Results revealed that emotional and social self-efficacy dimensions of self-efficacy predicted academic buoyancy both directly and indirectly, through mastery approach goal orientation. However, academic self-efficacy only predicted academic buoyancy through mastery approach goal orientation. None of the teacher-student interaction dimensions predicted academic buoyancy directly. Mastery-avoidance goal orientation mediated the relationship between control and orientation dimensions of teacher-student interaction and academic buoyancy. After all, the research findings contributed theoretical knowledge, academic buoyancy and provide some for implications promoting students’ academic buoyancy skill more implications and justificationson of the results discussed in the final chapter.

The purpose of this study is to provide a meta-analysis method for combining the Quantitative Result of different study about relationship between goal orientation and academic achievement. To achieve this goal, we used the qualitative findings of 23 researches from which 82 effect sizes were obtained. The statistical population of the study is all articles in SID database . After considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the selected statistical indicators were analyzed by CMA software version 2. The size of combined effect of random model was 207/0 for Mastery Goal Orientations, 020/0 for Mastery -avoidance goals, 094/0 for Performance Goal Orientations ،, and 068/0- for performance-avoidance goals. this effect sizes were significant for Mastery and performance Goal Orientations and Non-significant for Mastery and performance -avoidance goals. Being significant effect size for Mastery and performance Goal Orientations represents both a significant and a positive impact on educational attainment. But, according to Cohen's criteria, this effect size has a slight effect. In other words, this relationship is low in the studied population.

The aim of this study was to assess thinking styles and goal orientation of students and their relationship with academic performance. This article is descriptive-correlational research and data gathered using questionnaire. Statistical population of the study comprised students studying at Agricultural Colleges of Universities of Tehran, Yasoohj, Ilam, Shahid Bahonar Kerman, and Razi Kermanshah, which a sample of 247 students was randomly selected. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, conducting SPSS. Thinking styles grouped in five dimensions including function, form, level, scope, and leaning and goal orientation in two dimensions. The findings revealed that there were differences between male and female students on some aspects of thinking styles and goal orientations. The findings revealed that among thinking styles, global and executive and among goal orientation, performance-oriented had the most positive effects on academic performance.

The aim of this study is to investigate the role of achievement motivation and goal orientation in the academic performance of students. In this study, 246 university students of Islamic Azad University of Abdanan selected through stratified random sampling and responded to Achievement Motivation Questionnaire (AMQ) and Elliot and McGregor development goals questionnaire. Data were analyzed using multiple regression and Pearson Correlation. The results showed that between the components of achievement motivation, hardworking and between the component elements of achievement goals, Mastery Approach have a significant effect on academic performance and can explain%21 of the total variance of academic performance. The application of these findings is that in order to save resources and time saving, between the eight components only planning to strengthen and upgrade two components is required, hardworking and Mastery Approach improve academic performance and providing programs to improve efficiency in other components is not required.

The purpose of this study was to investigate and identify the contribution of each variable type of goal orientation in self-regulated learning and academic achievement is anticipated. The study was a cross-sectional descriptive co-relational approach. Population in this research includes total of students of grade 3 of high school of male and female sex in Rasht were enrolled in 2013-2014. Participants were 364 high school students (156 girls, 208 boys) of Rasht with the use of multistage clustering sampling and regard to the capacity of association are selected. Measures were questionnaire learning ways of Pintrich and Digrout, questionnaire evaluation goal orientation Elliot and McGregor. Analyzing and evaluation were conducted by multivariate regression with the use of SPSS.19. Research findings indicate that self-regulated learning and mastery orientation have positive effects on academic achievement and performance orientation as negative effects is a meaningful prediction for academic achievement of students and share of self-regulated learning ways in this is more from the others.

Test anxiety is related to academic performance and if sever, it damages performance and leads to academic failure. The homework value as an important factor in academic achievement can affect test anxiety by goal orientation. This research aims at evaluating the direct and indirect effect of homework value through goal orientation on test anxiety. The study is conducted in 2012 on 350 high school students in Kerman city who are selected through multi-stage random clustering method. The participants answered questionnaires of homework value by Pintrich and DeGroot, goal-orientation by Elliot and McGregor and Friedben test anxiety. In order to evaluate the relations between latent variables and the ones measured in the suggested model, structural equations modeling is used. The findings show that the latent variable of homework value has a direct and indirect effect on test anxiety through goal orientation. Also, all regression weights in this model are significant. The results are also indicative of direct effect of goal orientation on test anxiety.

This study was done to find out any relationship between perceptions of classroom environment and goal orientation with math academic achievement of female secondary students in district 9) in Tehran city. 150 students were selected as sample group through cluster sampling."What happens in this classroom" (WIHIC) and "goal-oriented education" (AGOR) scales was used for collecting of required data. Also, were measured math achievement in the first semester with final scores math (calculus). Statistical analysis of data was done using SPSS statistical software that includes using Pearson Spearman correlation test and regression analysis. Results showed that there is significant relationship between perceptions of classroom environment and education achievement of math. Also there is significant relationship between perceptions of classroom environment and goal orientation; but there is no significant relationship between goal orientation and education achievement of math. Also, regression analysis results showed that perceptions of classroom environment predict education achievement of math and mastery goal orientation
