The analysis is of post-event nature. To this end, from among all junior high school students studying in Tehran in the academic year 2007-2008, 740 boys and girls were selected using the multistage cluster sampling method. Then, the demographic information questionnaire and family assessment device (FAD) were administered for the purpose of examining performance of the sample group families, and the indices provided through administration of the questionnaires were analyzed and compared in terms of the students’ academic achievement considered based on their averages by means of a t-test and one-way ANOVA and SPSS application. The findings of data analysis suggest that the academic status of the students experiencing inefficient family atmosphere was significantly worsened. Furthermore, the students from the families experiencing weak economic conditions had more academic achievement vis-à-vis those coming from the families with high economic status. There was no significant relation between the students’ academic achievement and mothers’ educational background, and female students’ academic conditions were better than the male students’. The research results generally indicate that there is a significant relation between weak family performance and reduced academic achievement of the junior high school students.  پژوهش حاضر با هدف بررسی نقش خانواده در پیشرفت تحصیلی دانش آموزان دوره راهنمایی شهر تهران صورت گرفت. پژوهش از پس رویدادی بود. بدین منظور از بین کلیه دانش آموزان دوره راهنمایی شهر تهران که در سال تحصیلی 87- 86 در مدارس این شهر مشغول به تحصیلی بودند 740  دانش آموز دختر و پسر با استفاده از روش نمونه گیری خوشه ای چندمرحله ای به عنوان نمونه انتخاب شدند. سپس پرسشنامه های اطلاعات دموگرافیک و ابزار سنجش خانواده(FAD) جهت بررسی عملکرد خانواده های گروه نمونه مورد اجرا قرار گرفت و  شاخص های به دست آمده از اجرای پرسشنامه ها با پیشرفت تحصیلی دانش آموزان که بر پایه معدل دانش آموزان در نظر گرفته شده بود، با استفاده از آزمون t و تحلیل واریانس یکراهه بوسیله نرم افزار SPSS مورد تجزیه و تحلیل و مقایسه قرار گرفت. یافته های به دست آمده از تحلیل داده ها حاکی از آن بود که دانش آموزان با جو خانوادگی ناکارآمد به طور معناداری از نظر وضعیت تحصیلی وضعیت بدتری دارند. وضعیت تحصیلی دانش آموزان خانواده هایی با وضعیت اقتصادی ضعیف در مقایسه با دانش آموزان با وضعیت اقتصادی بالا بیشتر بود. بین وضعیت تحصیلی دانش آموزان و سطح تحصیلات مادران تفاوت معناداری مشاهده نشد و دانش آموزان دختر از نظر وضعیت تحصیلی بهتر از دانش آموزان پسر بودند. بطور کلی نتایج به دست آمده حاصل از پژوهش حاضر نشان داد که بین کارکرد پایین خانواده با کارایی ضعیف تحصیلی نوجوانان دوره راهنمایی رابطه معناداری وجود دارد. https://jep.atu.ac.ir/article_630_45d59281fb78372d1415131afc6b6adf.pdf
